The dog days of summer are upon us, and we've hit the point where the only way to stay cool is to lounge under a fan with a cold drink in hand. While sipping on lemonade might excite our inner Beyoncé (and we're not sorry), it's hardly the only chill option. Which is why we asked blogger Laura Wright, an expert on irresistible, energizing drinks, to send over a few more.
Put away your wallets: You never need to buy a green smoothie again. Grab a big handful of your favorite leafy greens and herbs (we’re all about a mint + parsley combo) and blend them up with apple, peach, lime, cucumber, and hydrating coconut water. Gulp and repeat.
Get your hands on this fancy-sounding drink that's actually super simple to make. Blend strawberries with water (or coconut water for an electrolyte boost) then mix with chia seeds, lemon juice, and just a tiny bit of rosewater. If you can't find rosewater, don't worry. This drink is awesome with or without it.
Bursting with sweet berries and lemon juice, this magenta drink packs in a whole beet for even more natural sweetness. It’s best to use a high-power blender for this one, as raw beet flesh is super firm. Sing Beet It by Michael Jackson while you blend.
Lemonade gets an upgrade with help from carrots in this recipe. Lightly sweetened with maple syrup to offset the tart lemon juice and spicy ginger, this inventive drink will convince you to kick the powdered stuff to the curb. We think the best part is that there’s no juicer needed: Simply chop, blend, strain, and sip.
“I’m going to stop drinking so much coffee,” said everyone at one point or another. This drink is a compromise between only drinking lemon water and guzzling four espressos a day. Brew a cup of strong iced coffee but pack the cup with nutrient-powerhouses turmeric and chia seeds.
